Shrooming

Morel Mushrooms...
are among the most highly prized of all the Wild Harvest Mushrooms.
The reason is plain. Morels are delicious!

Fresh morel mushrooms are widely appreciated by gourmets, who savor their earthy flavor and unique texture. Morel mushrooms are marvelously flavorful and need little embellishment - many connoisseurs think morels are at their best when simply sauteed in a little butter and sprinkled with a pinch of sea salt.

Ben and Tayah made another trip mushroom hunting this week. That is twice this week already. I know Ben is really getting into it and Tayah enjoys a trip through the woods and was excited to actually be with to find some this time. They went out last night and did quite well, finding quite a few. I think we will be cooking them up tonight for dinner. Yumm!!
These 'shrooms have such a great flavor and are selling for $30.00-40.00 a pound!!

Gobble Gobble

Well, it is turkey season and this year Ben decided to take Tayah out on day 1 of turkey hunting for the first time. Tayah is very interested in hunting and was excited to be able to go with this year. Ben got her up at 3:45 a.m. and they were out the door by 4:00. Impressive!!

Unfortunately Ben didn't get a turkey on the first day, which it would have been cool for her to see that. She was excited and ready for dad to shoot the turkey but she did have fun and saw lots of things in the woods that day.

Ben said:
Well, she got to see a coyote, three deer, a hen turkey and a feral cat up close. There was a tom gobbling behind us, but he was being pretty quiet, so she couldn't hear it. She was very excited for me to shoot one if it came by the decoys, so maybe next time.

I thought it was cute because Ben said that Tayah was looking with the binoculars and spotted the coyote first and said in a whisper, "dad, look a coyote."

Tayah was home that morning by 8:00 and crawled into my bed and fell asleep at 10:00 and didn't wake up until 2:00 that afternoon.
He also found two Morel mushrooms, a real delicacy and hard mushroom to find, which he cooked up and shared with me Saturday evening. I've never had them before and I have to say they are VERY good. Ben did get his turkey Sunday morning.

Collin is working on cutting his bottom two teeth at this very second. It isn't going that great either. He has been sleeping pretty good for the most part at night. During the day he is fussy and wants to be held the majority of the time. SOON, very soon...that is what I am telling myself. I can see the two little bumps under his gums they just need to break their way through. We are living on tylenol and Hylands teething gel. He is like a little bird and sees the syringe coming and just opens his mouth. No arguments about that. It helps and he knows it.

On a happier note he now says, "mama" and not just babbling either (is anyone surprised that, that is his first word?). I'm pretty sure he knows what he is saying and knows that it means ME this time and will say it or repeat it when asked. He also does pat-a-cake and "So BIG". Also, moving everywhere and getting into things he shouldn't, like the TV cabinet, and climbing through the legs of the kitchen chairs until he gets stuck. Yeah, he is a lot of fun!

Tayah had her last day of preschool yesterday. Her class had a little going away presentation for the parents. Here is some video that Ben took. These are just way too cute.

Mark Your Calendars

Summer is almost here, I'm hopeful anyway, and as I know summer books up fast with various things. I decided to set a date for Collin's first birthday party (mostly for Ben so he doesn't plan something). So, mark your calendars for Sunday, August 7th. It will be at our house in the afternoon. Further details will be mailed out at a later date. Thanks!
Tayah is going turkey hunting for the first time with Ben on Friday. She will be getting up at 4 a.m. to head to the woods and hopefully watch her daddy shoot a turkey. She is excited. She is definitely a little bit of mama and a lot of daddy. So, look for a blog post on that....of course.

We tried some styling product in the hair today.

Love Weekends

26 DAYS UNTIL MEXICO!!!

We had a great weekend this weekend! Friday we had a wonderful dinner at Wildfire in Eden Prairie with Ben's mom and dad. Ben was gone over Mother's day weekend and wanted to take his mom out for dinner to celebrate that, so Friday it was.

Saturday we ran up to St. Cloud to run some errands and did a little shopping at the mall while we were there. Over the course of Friday and Saturday being out with kids I was told several times (6 times!! but who is counting) that I had a beautiful girl, or I heard "she is so cute" or "how old is she"...and they were NOT talking about Tayah. The first few times I just thought, "Are these people idiots because Collin does not look like a girl what so ever." He is totally dressed like a boy and definitely has little boy features, I think. So, It was about after comment number six of him being called "her" I decided to go get his hair cut. I had left his hair a little longer on top because he had some adorable curls but I had been cutting his hair around the ears and neckline since he was 9 weeks old. Still very much a boy hair style. But apparently people don't understand that boys can have big blue eyes and curls. So, now there is no mistaking this little boy. Still cute, minus a few curls.

Sunday I met with some mommy friends in St. Louis Park for lunch at Crave. Background Story: Way back in February 2006, just after finding out I was pregnant with Tayah, I joined a mommy forum , www.pregnancyweekly.com, with different moms from all over the world who were all due to have babies in October 2006. Well, eventually some of us mommies separated from the larger website and developed our own private forum where we could mommy-talk together about our pregnancy and later our little ones. Today, we all pretty much just catch up on Facebook (gotta love Facebook). So, 5 years later and with almost daily discussions over a common bond of mommy hood, we have gotten to know each other quite well. A few of us mommies from MN have met up before and decided to meet up again on Sunday for lunch. It's pretty cool because we are all about the same age and have similar lives so we have much in common, even if we don't see each other very often. It's a pretty unique relationship as I know other mommies from other states and countries have met up from our group for lunch or play dates. I know some have even met up with mommies from other places as they have traveled on trips. Very cool!! So, here we are: The MN Mommies.
