Big Girl Haircut

Yep, Tayah got a big girl haircut this week. Getting a haircut is nothing really new to Tayah, afterall I've been cutting her hair since she was 4 months old. I've never taken her into the salon to get it cut because I was always too afraid of the fit she would have in front of everyone. So, Sunday we were just bumming around town and I told Ben that I think we should take Tayah in to get her haircut because it needed a good trim and was looking kinda scraggly. So we stopped on our way home and got right in. I should mention that we first bribed her by telling her she would get a sucker when she was done if she was a good girl. So, the stylist set a booster on the chair and Tayah climbed right up all by herself then the stylist put the cape on and Tayah could have cared less about the whole thing. No crying, no screaming, no throwing any sort of fit what so ever. She sat so nice on the chair all by herself and let the lady cut her hair. The stylist would tell her to look down so she could get the back and she would. She did such a good job!! I guess it turns out that I was worried for nothing.

1:40 A.M.

That is the time I woke up this morning, yes that is A.M. not P.M. Yesterday Tayah came down with a bit of a cough. It wasn't anything too concerning but just a regular cold kind of cough. It didn't sound real horrible it was mostly the annoying kind that just doesn't go away. Well, I heard Tayah coughing at about 1:30 a.m. It wasn't really stopping so I decided to get up and bring her a glass of water to see if that helped. I gave her the drink and went back to bed. Two minutes later I hear her bedroom door open, remember we are in a big girl bed now (read first post for details on that) and she walks and stands on my side of the bed. This is the first time she has gotten out of her bed during the night...I'll be sure to let you know if this becomes a habit. I lift her up into bed and she lays down. Soon I hear, "scratch back, please." So, I scratch her back and she is quiet, and I am about ready to doze off. Then Tayah notices a shadow on the ceiling above the bed. "Mom, what's that?" she asks. I am trying to ignore her because after all it is 1:45 a.m. and it is no time to start a conversation. She says, "Hi bear. Mom, look. Sleeping bear." She decides the shadow on the wall looks like a bear and begins to have a conversation with it. For those of you who haven't seen the Disney movie Brother Bear there is a cub named "Koda" in the movie, so she asks the bear if his name is "Koda". She decides it's not and says "No, not Koda, Brother Bear." At this point I decide that this sleeping in our bed thing is not working so I take her back to her bed. It was quiet for quite a while, I think she must have been playing in her room, all I know is she wasn't sleeping because next thing I know she is back in our room. I hand this one over to Ben as she demands to watch a movie and says she is going to lay quietly on the couch. Ben went out into the living room to get her situated as I try to catch a quick 25 minute cat nap before my alarm goes off. I got up and got ready for the day at 6:00 a.m and when I got out of the shower Tayah and Ben are back in bed watching Winnie the Pooh, Ben half asleep and Tayah finally starting to wind down. I got up and ate breakfast and by 7:00 a.m. both Tayah and Ben are sound asleep. Ben eventually had to get up and make his way to work but Tayah decided that she would sleep in until 10:00.
I've been told that tonight I am supposed to put Vicks Vapor Rub on the bottom of her feet with socks and that will help with her cough at night. Well we will just see about that.

Let it SNOW!!

What could be anything better than a winter storm before Christmas? We got one of our first big winter storms this weekend and I have to say the snow is beautiful and it just makes everything feel a little bit more "Christmasy". Although, it was the kind of storm where all you could really do is lock yourself in the house, cuddle on the couch with a movie and hot chocolate, which is exactly what we did for most of the day. We did manage to make it outside to play for a little bit while Ben worked on clearing the driveway full of snow. Tayah had fun kicking and throwing the snow around and I just enjoyed watching her curiousity with the whole experience.

Tayah's Cage

Well, I thought I would start off my very first post with the latest and greatest on life with a toddler. Tayah turned two in October and recently we transitioned into a toddler bed. May I mention that Tayah was doing perfectly fine sleeping in her crib and she had yet to figure out how to escape so we had no real reason on moving her out of her crib just quite yet. Although recently when I was laying her down for a nap she said, "Tayah's cage". I asked her, "what?" as I wasn't quite sure what she was talking about. She said, "Tayah's cage, like birdcage." I sorta just ignored her comment but thought, where in the world did she come up with that. The next day when I laid her down for her nap again she said, "Tayah's cage." I was sorta bothered by her comment and thought I cannot have my daughter think she sleeps in a cage nor can I have her repeat this bit of news to anyone else. So, I made a split instant decision to take the rails off her crib. Now if you ask her if she sleeps in a cage she says, "not a cage, a bed."
Oh, and did I mention we are on day 6 of no naps!! I really could have done without this transition.
